Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery set to return to training
Bayern Munich has been handed a boost, receiving the news that Franck Ribery could be set to return to training on Friday, 22 October.
The winger has been out of action for a month after picking up an ankle injury in the Bundesliga champions’ 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on 21 September.
Fortunately, the attacker is edging closer to a return and will take part in individual training sessions as he works his way back to match fitness.
He told German website TZ-online, "Things are going a lot better already. Of course, I still have some pain in my ankle every now and then, but I'm definitely making progress.
"I want to return to individual training action on Friday to do some running exercises and so on. I've yet to discuss this with physio Thomas Wilhelmi though. Nevertheless, it's my plan to resume training this week. I am hopeful that I'll be able to resume
squad training again in two or three weeks. I'm desperate to return to match action and to help the team get better results."
While Ribery has been out of action, Bayern has struggled to achieve the kinds of results which led them to the league title, as well as the UEFA Champions League final last season.
Following the Hoffenheim victory, Bayern fell 2-1 to Mainz and also suffered defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund before picking up three points against Hannover in a 3-0 victory.
They kept up their good European form with wins over Swiss side Basel and Romanian outfit CFR Cluj, but the indifferent results in the domestic campaign have created cause for concern.
Bayern are currently sitting in tenth place in the league, ten points behind leaders Borussia and Mainz.
