Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm has expressed pleasure after progressing through to the UEFA Champions League group stages. Bayern locked heads with Swiss side FC Zurich in the play-off tie which ended 3-0 aggregate in favour of Die Rotten.
The Bavarians snapped up a 2-0 win at home last week courtesy goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521. The return leg in Zurich ended 1-0 in Munich’s favour. Mario Gomez scored the only goal of the game, played on Tuesday, August 23.
Lahm mentioned that his side were brilliant on Tuesday and certainly deserved a win. He was all praise for Gomez who has seemingly found his lost touch and scored as early as the seventh minute, asking hosts to score four in order to go through. The defender
also reserved praise for Schweinsteiger and Robben who Bayern the breathing space in terms of score lines.
The German international urged his side not to relax as Bayern wait for their opponents in the group stages. Champions League draws are going to take place later tonight in Monaco.
While talking to the reporters after the game, the fullback enthused, "It was our duty to reach the Champions League. FC Bayern belongs there. The team belongs in the Champions League and we've shown that with the last two games.”
“For now, we are happy too. Champions League nights are always nice. We will see, where the team stands. The team is developing at the moment, but we also showed that we improved from week to week and from game to game. That is very important, but we will
only see in a few weeks, how far we are."
