The Bavarian giants are the benchmark of German football. It is the biggest and most successful club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 by a mile and has won a record 22 Bundesliga titles.
Whenever there is talk of the Bundesliga, the first thing that comes to mind is Bayern Munich. The team is based in Munich, Bavaria. It was formed on 27 February 1900 by members of a gymnastics club. They are known as Bavarians,
Der FCB, Die Bayern and Die Roten as well. They play their matches at the Allianz Arena that has a capacity of 69901 people.
The Reds have won 22 league titles, 15 DFB-Pokal cups, 4 UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Cup, a European Cup Winners Cup, 6 DFB Liga-Pokal, 4 DFL-Supercup and 2 Intercontinental cups. No team in the country can match their achievements.
The German outfit has won five of the last 10 league championships.
The Bavarians are one of the few clubs to have won all three major European cups. The team won its first league championship in 1932 under the managerial guidance of Richard Kohn. They were not chosen for the inaugural Bundesliga
season in 1963 because of bankruptcy.
Bayern gained promotion in 1965 and went on to win four titles, four German cups, a European Cup Winners Cup and the European Cup three consecutive years under the leadership of Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller.
In the 1980s the star players, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Breitner-c8032 and Rummenigge were called FC Breitnigge and won the club 6 more leagues and three German cups but Bayern remained elusive of the European glory; even though they finished runners-up
twice.
At the start of the following decade Bayern were almost relegated in 1992, which was unbelievable for a club of their stature. This followed a shock defeat at the hands of Norwich in the UEFA cup in 1993. Beckenbauer took charge
and won the league after a span of 4 years. After his departure, trouble started again and the side failed to win any trophy for some time. The players were in the spotlight for gossip pages rather than sporting news and as a result were labelled as FC Hollywood.
Der Kaiser took on as a caretaker coach and went on to win the 1995-96 UEFA Cup. The following season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovanni-c14985 Trapattoni came back and led the team to league success but was fired as Die Bayern conceded the league to the newly
promoted side, Kaiserslautern.
The arrival of Ottmar Hitzfeld from Borussia Dortmund transformed the club and they became the greatest team in the country without a shadow of a doubt. They collected four trophies in his time at the club. In 1999, the Bavarians
lost the Champions League final in an epic match against Manchester United after they were winning 1-0 but conceded two extra time goals.
Bayern atlast tasted Europe’s premier trophy in 2001 when they beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 on penalty-shootout. Felix Magath led them to two consecutive doubles in 2005 and 2006. This prompted their move to the ultra-modern stadium, Allianz
Arena. Der FCB outfit continued it’s domestic success but failed to go past the quarter-finals of Champions League from 2002-09.
Finally in 2010 they reached the final again under the coaching of Louis Van Gaal but lost to the mighty http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as they came 3rd in the league in 2011.
Jupp Heynckes returned to the club and salvaged Bayern’s woes but the new power-horse Borussia Dortmund defeated them in two straight Bundesliga seasons and DFB-Pokal last campaign. They were also the 2nd best team in
the Champions League when they lost to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on penalties.
