Bayern coach urges Schweinsteiger to pick Madrid over Chelsea
Louis Van Gaal, the Bayern Munich coach said while talking to reporters that he wished to keep German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, but if the player had to move somewhere, then he would prefer the player moved to Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old has been at Bayern Munich his entire career and has been influential in their success. Last season the midfielder helped his side reach the Champions league final, only to lose out to Mourinho’s Inter Milan.
He was exceptional in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as well. He is one of the few players who are as good for country as they are for club. The German international displayed a brilliant performance in South Africa, especially in the latter stages and
was noticed by all the top clubs.
His contract expires in 2012, which has given rise to speculation that the midfielder will want a move away from Munich. English Champions Chelsea are leading the race for Schweinsteiger’s signature and sources reveal that the Blues may already have contacted
Munich over a pre-contract.
The pre-contract would be signed this January, and would tie the player to Chelsea next year. However, the Bayern coach suggested in a recent press conference that the German player would more likely join the Spanish giants than Chelsea.
The Dutch coach did make it very clear that he wanted Schweinsteiger to stay at Munich, but said that he believed the midfielder would do much better at Madrid than he would at Chelsea. If the past is anything to go by, then German midfielder Michael Ballack
was not as big a hit as everyone had hoped.
However, Real Madrid recently signed two German players; Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira over the summer. Mourinho was extremely impressed by the German players and they have duplicated their good form for Madrid, Schweinsteiger would fit in nicely with the
rest of the squad.
Van Gaal told reporters in a press conference, “Schweinsteiger would fit in well at Real...but I hope he stays with us. That’s best for our club.” This will be a blow to Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans, who had hoped to have the 26-year-old midfielder
at the Bridge by next summer.
