Bayern only took a point in Hanseatic City
The German Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich only managed to take out a goalless draw with old rivals Hamburg on Friday but the Bavarians remained mired in mid table, nine points adrift of leaders Dortmund.
Bayern were seeking a first win in the Hanseatic City for five seasons but they settled for a point happily enough given the absence of Mark van Bommel, Daniel van Buyten and the German Pele, Miroslav Klose, as well as longer –term absentees Arjen Robben
and Franck Ribery.
Bayern can console themselves that they already have a foot in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League after three wins in three in a weak group. However, Louis Van Gaal’s men have a fight on if they wish to return to that tournament next seasons
through a high Bundesliga finish.
Bayern Munich coach Louis Van Gaal admitted he was very disappointed as his team did give everything that they had and still managed to take a single point.
Currently, Bayern are up to ninth in the table after Friday night’s draw, but remain nine points behind leaders Dortmund who host Hoffenheim on Sunday. German giants Bayern Munich were the ones who reached the final of the UEFA Champions League last season.
However, Hamburg is a side that has been defeating them for the past five years and the German champions were seeking a first win in Hamburg since then; nonetheless, they settled for a point without captain Mark Van Bommel, defender Daniel Van Buyten, striker
Miroslav Klose, plus player makers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
Van Gaal admitted that after the match he went inside the locker room and told his players that it is simply shameful that they could not win a game. He also admitted that he was sure that the team could come away with a lot more than what they achieved
that night. He told the press about his opposition to some of the events of the match; Hamburg were not very physical during the last 15 minutes of the game and that was the time when his team should’ve scored but they totally failed to do so.
However, he said that the failure of the team could even cost them all the points and they could simply go home with nothing but at least they won a point. He stated that his “lads” are trying to give all that they have and he is happy how his team is approaching
all the games passionately.
Van Gaal further added on to his comments by saying that he is unhappy about the fact that his team could not score one more goal to win it and earn three points. Hamburg were the side that could easily take the three points right at the end of the game
as the fans saw Burkino Faso midfielder Jonathan Pitroipa dribble through the defence but only found the woodwork rather than the back of the net.
Bayern Munich captain and their defender Philipp Lahm accepted that the team wanted to come away with the three points but Hamburg had a huge chance of winning the game and that is the reason why he is satisfied with the one point that they earned after
a draw.
As Hamburg are currently positioned on fourth at the points table, their coach Armin Veh is very happy to take just a single point from the match against Bayern Munich as his team is going to remain at this position before the matches take place on Sunday.
The Hamburg coach admitted that the team that he was facing was missing out on a lot of quality players but they were still able to give very tough time to his side. He admitted that this was the only reason why he did not throw a lot of players forward
during the dying moments of the match because the other team can easily counter attack to score goals. However, it was his side that did not score during the dying moments of the game as Jonathan Pitroipa was only able to hit the post.
