The Bavarian giants also missed out on the prestigious UEFA Champions League trophy. After impressing throughout in the tournament, they ran out of gas in the final. Jupp Heynckes’ side surrendered a 1-0 lead and lost the game
on penalties, after dominating http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 for around two hours.
Die Roten’s deficiencies in the midfield were visible on many occasions; Schweinsteiger had too much to do. The club were visibly, in dire need of a holding midfielder who could protect the back four.
The Bayern tactician identified Athletic Bilbao’s Javi http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 as the club’s number one target. The 67-year old revealed his club have held talks with the midfielder’s agent and Josu Urrutia, a player he knows from his time as
the Bilbao club’s manager.
"It is not a secret that we have spoken with Javi Martinez's agents. I have also spoken with Josu Urrutia, who played for me in my first stint at Athletic,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
The veteran manager also claims that from his time at Athletic, he knows a lot about the Basque way of thinking, a player’s buy-out clause is a political matter.
"I know how the Basques think. The fact that they insist on asking for the figure in his buy-out clause is also a political decision,” he added.
Heynckes insists that his club will not pay the asking price, which is reported to be around 40 million Euros. Although he concedes that reaching an agreement with Athletic will not be easy but, is astill optimistic.
"Bayern will never pay that figure that is for sure. There is always hope, but I am not sure that it will be easy to sign him," he further added.
If the Bavarian giants manage to get their man for anything less than his buy-out clause, it will be an absolute steal. Martinez is the type of player, who can make an immediate impact the club and he will certainly organise the
midfield with his versatility.
