Question:

Bayliner boats?

I've heard mixed reviews about Bayliner boats. Looking at a 2007-2008 Bayliner 175 or 185 runabout or ski/fish. For around 13,600 new for the 175, it seems like a great deal!

So what is the truth? Is Bayliner really the bottom of the quality list? What makes a new Bayliner so much cheaper than any other boat?

  1. Steer Cleer

  2. Although Bayliner keeps their cost down by mass producing, I find it to be a very good boat made by one of the leading manufacturing companies. A Brunswick® Corporation brand and a member of the Brunswick Boat Group, is the acknowledged leader in recreational boating. They make most of the boats on the market. The only thing I'm not completely satisfied with is they use the V-4 on the boats you listed. I would go with a optional V-6 & I don't think you will be disapointed. Happy boating.

  3. I've owned two bayliners  and have had two great boats. I'll be the first admit that they are cheaper made boats. The hull isn't as thick as other boats, and they are a bit noisier, but if you maintain it properly then it will last a long time. Bayliner has improved all the things that had given them a bad name. Like the seat , carpet, guages etc.  It's really a good buy for the money.

  4. stay close to shore and avoid rough water. a boat is like any other product. you get what you pay for. always wear a life jacket.

  5. Yeah Bayliner is like the chevette in GM ......

Low cost tranportation they will fall apart and their motors will force you to the shop. (little motor humor) :))

  6. their nickname isnt .

    trashliner for nothing

    the hull is thin

  7. If you only have that much money to spend, then go for it.  But if you can spend more stay away from Bayliner.  Although Bayliner is made by Brunswick Corp. there is a reason they sell for this price.  Take a look at Brunswick's website.  Check out the other boat brands they manufacture and find boats comparable to the Bayliner you are considering.  There will be a big price difference.

The reason for this is that Bayliner is simply made with cheaper materials.  The carpet is the equivalent of cardboard, the hull is extremely thin and the vinyl is cheap.

Brunswick also makes Maxum, Triton, Baja and Lund boats, all of which are extremely well made boats.  Just check out the price difference, and go to a dealer and look at the other Brunswick brands of boats.  YOU WILL SEE FOR YOURSELF!

Oh yeah, one more thing.  Unless it has an older OMC Johnson or evinrude outboard or a new Evinrude E-Tec outboard, which I guarantee it does not due to the fact that Brunswick also owns the Mercury Marine brand, it does not come with a V4 engine.  There is no such thing as a V4 Mercury outboard or ANY V4 sterndrive motor.

  8. Not a powerboat fan, but "Bayliner " was something of a joke.

A friend dragged me to every boat dealer in the area looking for a new boat.

For kicks we looked at Bayliner.

They have been made by the Searay people for some time .

There were some older(c**p) ones in the place  to compare & hate to say it ,I was impressed.

The hulls were nice , the decks didn't bounce & everything looked tight.

Outfitted simply & sensibly (sailboat style).

The salesman knew his stuff , admitted  that the old ones were  a joke & showed us tthe differences.

If I ever lose my mind & go for a powerboat , I would consider one.

    Best regards
