On Tuesday night, Baylor Bears collected their 4th consecutive win of the NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 by overpowering South Carolina State Bulldogs 70-50 to improve their record to 4-0.
Bears were in the driving seat from the beginning; however Bulldogs were never out of the game and were just 5 points behind 33-28 by the end of a well fought half.
It was the second half when Bears shifted gears and launched an onslaught to take the game miles away from the opponents. Bulldogs never managed to recover from there on as with time, the deficit only kept on mounting and by the time the final buzzer rang, Bulldogs found themselves trailing behind 20 points.
The man responsible for the victory was Anthony Jones, who scored his career high 21 points on an aggressive 3 for 4 from the downtown and 6 for 9 from the two point range. Pierre Jackson supported Jones well and added another 11 while Quincy Acy, despite failing to score in double figures was impressive with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Anthony Jones started the proceedings with a jumper to put his team ahead and followed it with a layup and a trey later to make it 7-3. Jones looked unstoppable and kept on finding baskets regularly to levitate Bears to a 10 point advantage,18-8, in the 9th minute however Bulldogs did not let Bears to run away with the show and scored in quick succession to level it first at 24 all and then at 28 all with a minute remaining.
A five point run by Bears in the last minute helped them in finishing the first half with a 33-28 lead.
However, four back to back three’s by Jones and Brady Heslip in the first four minutes shifted the momentum completely to Bears side as their lead swelled to 17 points 45-28. The intensity was witnessed in the defense as well and the Bulldogs could only muster 2 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
The fate of game had already been decided when Pierre’s three extended the lead to 52-30. However Bull dogs did not go without a fight and scored 20 points in next 10 minutes as compared to 18 by the Bears.
