Baylor women’s volleyball team defeats Texas Tech by 3-0
Baylor women’s volleyball team had a match with Texas Tech on Wednesday, September 5. It did not take long for the game to reach its close as Baylor were able to end up on the winning side after making a clean sweep over their opponents.
The first set of the match saw both sides come out strong but as the match progressed Texas Tech began falling behind as Baylor were able to put on a good show that got them the opening set win. The loss of the first set of the game did not sit well with
the Texas Tech side and they stayed neck to neck with the Baylor all through. As a result, the second set of the match was the most competitive but it ended in favour of Baylor, despite the effort of Texas Tech. The third set saw Texas Tech play with dampened
spirits and it was not a hard job for Baylor to secure the a match win at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18.
The coach of the Baylor team, Jim Barnes, made the following comments after his team had won the match and made him the coach with the most wins in Baylor's history by bagging 130 wins: “I have been at a great place, and that’s what has been real special.
Baylor is a great place with some great kids, and it’s been a great eight years. But we’ve still got lots of work to do; that’s for sure.”
Baylor has been able to bag a total of two victories in the BIG 12 tournament so far, whereas the team has incurred three losses. On the other hand, their overall season wins include 13 games and six defeats.
The senior middle blocker for Baylor, Briana Tolbert, made the following comments about the match after it was over: “We try to be as consistent as possible and just do the things that we know that are going to keep us in control. Keeping our tempo, keeping
our pace and all sticking together, that pretty much helps us control the match.”
Tolbert was able to secure the most number of kills for Baylor by tallying 15 of them whereas Amanda Dowdy as well as Breeann David made 10 kills for the Tech, the highest on their side.
The lead in the first set rested with Tech at 7-1 but Baylor took it at 18-17 and did not look back until the end at 25-19. The second set went back and forth but it rested with Baylor who put up a commendable fight. The third set was spotted with 15 of
Baylor’s kills and it was bagged by them at 25-18.
