Bayside boys volleyball team defeats Susan Wagner on Thursday
It is not only at the university level that volleyball is being played competitively but high schools too have inculcated programs that provide the young budding athletes with many opportunities to hone their skills.
Schools have provided both their girls as well as boys volleyball teams with vigorous training sessions that develop the skill of the young players.
After these players have undergone strenuous practice, they are made to test their mettle by participating in several tournaments held both at the local as well as the national level. Such tournaments give them the right kind of exposure and position them
perfectly to be taken up by the professional teams once the members of the high school teams graduate.
One such team is the Bayside boys volleyball team that does not fail to entertain their fans every time they step onto the courts. The last match that Bayside played was against Susan Wagner and was part of the Public Schools Athletic League. The match that
took place on Monday was won by Bayside as they made a clean sweep over the Susan Wagner team. By the time that Bayside was celebrating its well deserved victory by jumping with joy and Susan Wagner was heading out of the courts with slumped shoulders, the
scoreboard read 25-17 and 25-22.
With their recent win, the number 15 ranked Bayside team has been able to secure themselves a total of 10 victories so far. These wins have been accomplished at the expense of undergoing three losses in all. As opposed to the performance statistics of Bayside,
the record of the number 18 ranked Wagner falls pale. The number of victories that Wagner has been able to register so far equal to the amount of seven. These victories have been secured at the cost of experiencing four losses in all.
Both the attack as well as the defence of Bayside played an important role in securing a match win. Apart from that, the team was well synchronized as well. Despite the fact that it was a team effort, some players stood more prominent in the entire match
than others.
The highest number of kills that any Bayside player had were eight. These kills were registered by Sanghun Baek. Baek did not contribute only in the attacking area; he was also able to help his team by posting seven digs. Baek was supported by his teammate,
Jason Ko, who was able to make his presence felt by making 26 assists. Daniel Shimunov was another player who was able to post nine digs for Bayside.
Having secured a commendable win, the Bayside team is scheduled for another match that will take place on Thursday against the Academy of American Studies.
