hello i was wondering if a bb gun would make a good self protection weapon im reluctant to puchase a real firearm due to the fact i have small children running around the house i already have a bb gun that shoots at 480 fps but would that be strong enough to subdue an intruder without seriously injuring them

thanks

  1. probably not.my son shoots squirrels with his. but it doesn't always kill them. it doesn't faze a rabbit. maybe if you shoot the intruder in the eye it will stop them. or if the gun looks like a real gun maybe you can bluff your way out. i personally wouldn't put my life in the hands of a bb gun. i own 2 real guns and both my sons have been to a gun safety course. i also have a locked gun cabinet{not with glass}

  2. It works great for small animals but if you are actually talking about protecting your family from burglars you should get either a real gun(not recommended) or to keep it a lot safer you can choose from  stun guns, pepper spray or tazers(check with your local laws). These work great and you don't have to worry about taking anyones' life, including a member of your family by accident. Baseball bats still work great for subduing a single enemy(blunt beats sharp objects).

  3. No.  A BB gun will simply annoy an assailant.  If you want a non lethal option, look for a taser.  Those will certainly be more effective at subduing a person.  Next down the list would be strong pepper spray.

  4. buy a handgun and a small one gun safe and keep it by your bed side. The kids wont get into the safe and it will actually penetrate an intruder rather than sting them.

  5. I never understood the mindset of people who are worried about "seriously injuring" an intruder who is intent upon doing harm to you and your family. Do you want you or a family member to be hurt or killed because you didn't want to hurt the attacker?

    I'd get yourself a handgun, something like a Ruger .357 with the short barrel and small frame. Then I'd buy a good quality concealment holster and carry it on your person while you are in the house. When you are storing it, store it in a locked metal box. This will keep it in your control at all times, and when in storage, safe from your children.

  6. NOOOO.  this would probably just sting and it may not even break the skin (if its a metal bb gun).  Buy a taser, pepper spray, a pistol, or a shotgun.

  7. it would only tickel him that is nothing compared to a real firearm

  8. I used to teach self defense classes and the best thing is Pepper spay.  Easy to use and won't back fire
