what is the piece of music that has been played, while the Grand National horses have had their starting prices displayed

  1. I believe the piece of music you refer to is the theme from the movie "Champions", which starred John Hurt as the jockey Bob Champion.

    The BBC coverage usually uses this stirring symphonic piece just as the horses are being led to the Aintree start line.


  2. Was it not the theme music from the film Chariots of Fire - although what music has got to do with horse racing I do not know nor why we should have to listen to those galloping coconuts in the background of a race commentary!

    Does music have to be there to keep our attention as we are so bored we might doze off? It's the same with the chimes on The Weakest Link, Countdown or Deal or No Deal - continual noise, which is why I avoid such programmes.

    Yes, Rob H, you are right. I could not remember the title which is why the first part of my answer was in the form of a question.
