  1. That is a wonderful plan! The Marine Corps will get your ready to be on the squad, and they will see you as more ready with your service.

  2. When I was 17 I was planning to do this when I turned 18. I had it all planned out. I think its a great idea. Other things came along or me..but If they had not I would probably be an ex marine cop right now.

  3. That is a great plan.  The Marines will build character, discipline, and gain you benefits towards things like paying for your college.  The college will help you get into specialized units within the LAPD, such as the detective bureau, or getting a promotion.

    Go for it.

    Good luck and stay safe.

  4. It is the road I took.  Albeit a little less traveled these days because of education requirements and the war on terror but still a good place to start.  I would recommend you take college while on active duty.  I was young and stupid and chose to try college after the Marines.  Life was rough working a 10hr midnight shift for the PD and then carrying a full college load.  But it was well worth it.  College seems to be a must to get promoted past Lieutenant these days.  Just keep it in mind.  Good luck.
