Something fun....If you were a manager, what would your starting lineup be??

Pick a starting lineup, a starting pitcher (you can pick a starting rotation if you want), 3 relievers, and a closer......Have fun with it...

You have a better chance of getting a best answer if you put some thought into it and don't just pick the big names.

  6. I'll try to not use super studs.

    1. Grady Sizemore (CF) I like his speed and defensive ability

    2. Kevin Youkilis (1B) Really wanted to get Mauer here but can't have 2 lefties back to back

    3. David Ortiz (DH)

    4. Matt Holliday (LF)

    5. Nick Markakis (RF) Trying to keep up with the righty lefty thing. Plus Markakis is VASTLY underrated)

    6. Evan Longoria (3B) Average not where I like it to be. Defensive wiz though

    7. Dustin Pedroia (2B) One thing he does is it. Doesn't draw have many walks as Youk though

    8. Ryan Theriot (SS) High OBP but he is a horrific base stealer. Can't run into outs.

    9. Chris Ianetta (C) Like I said, I wanted to keep it not all studs and Ianetta has 12 homers in 61 games with a respectable .271 average,

SP-Roy Halladay (AL Cy Young winner. He will not get himself into trouble with walks but he will get himself out of trouble with the much high K rate this season. Plus he is a seasoned veteran that will eat up a lot of innings)

RP-Hong-Chih Kuo (He is unhittable and he has fixed his command. He can also go more than 1 inning and most importantly, he's got the Ks)

RP-Taylor Buchholz (He has a sub 2 ERA, sub 1 WHIP and almost a 9/9 K rate. And all that in Coors)

    RP-Grant Balfour (What an incredible year. 1.26 ERA, .77 WHIP and a 13.2 K/9!)

CL-Joe Nathan (He is to me the surest save not named Mariano Rivera).

Like I said, I didn't want to use the All Star teams. Hope I succeed :)

ANSWERS MAN!!!.  My coaching staff includes: Joe Girardi as bench coach, Leo Mizzoni as pitching coach, Ricky Henderson as base running coach, and Tony Gwynn as the hitting coach.  Here's my lineup:

    1) Jose Reyes SS

  9. 1.CF Ichiro

    4. 1B Ryan Howard

    5. SS Hanley Ramirez

    6. LF Matt Holiday

    7. 3B David Wright

    8. C Russel Martin

    9. RF Vladimir Guerrero

    P Cliff Lee

    P Roy Halliday

    P CC Sabathia

    RP Jonathan Papelbon

  10. Hanley Ramirez SS

    Carlos Beltran CF

    Alex Rodriguez 3B

    David Ortiz DH

    Albert Pujols 1B

    Manny Ramirez LF

    Vladimir Guerrerro RF

    Chase Utley 2B

    Joe Mauer C

    Talk about a feared lineup.

    And my rotation would be:

    Halladay

    Sabathia

    Peavy

    Beckett

    Joba

With of course, Mariano Rivera as closer.

My lineup has speed at the top with the most feared hitters in baseball back-to-back-to-back-to-back to drive them in followed by guys who hit for high average at the bottom to link the lineup. Halladay has to be the #1 because he's just so dominant and gives you innings with Sabathia doing the same. Peavy is very dominant and Beckett is one of the best in a clutch spot, and Joba Chamberlain is so overpowering and can outduel any ace.

Rivera is the best of course. You can't beat the best, who has done it when it counts- in the playoffs and world series.
