‘Be careful for what you ask’, New York Giants’ Antrel Rolle warns San Francisco 49ers’ Vernon Davis
While warning San Francisco 49ers’ tight end, Vernon Davis, New York Giants' safety, Antrel Rolle, stated on Tuesday, January, 17, 2012, that one should be very careful in terms of expressing their desires.
The 49ers defeated the New Orleans Saints (36-32) to qualify for the National Football Conference (NFC) championship final last Saturday.
On Sunday, the Giants were scheduled to play the defending Super Bowl Champions, Green Bay Packers, and the winner was supposed to compete against the 49ers in the championship game.
Giants’ victory would have meant that the 49ers would host the game. Otherwise, the 49ers were to travel to Green Bay.
Giants, who had only won nine games in the regular season, stunned the Packers (37-20) who had lost only one game in that same time frame.
New York restricted Packers’ offence to scoring only two touchdowns and two field goals during the game. Not only that, they never allowed the Packers to take the lead and capitalised on many scoring opportunities.
The 49ers and Giants are now going to play at the Candlestick Park on Sunday and the winner will qualify for the Super Bowl to play against either Baltimore Ravens or New England Patriots.
A day after the Giants’ victory, 49ers’ Davis commented that he had prayed for the Giants to win. He clarified his remarks and mentioned that he did not consider the Giants a weak team.
“I didn't pray because they were the worse team. I prayed because they're a good team, and I acknowledge that. The hardest game ever when they come up here. They have a good team offensively and defensively”, Davis remarked.
Davis’s wish came true, and Rolle responded to that during a radio show.
"If he said that, I can only hope that he was saying just because they wanted to get a home game. You know, they better be careful for what they ask for because their wish has been granted and we will see those boys come Sunday".
No matter how many times Davis explains his comments, it is an inescapable fact that the Packers were the biggest threat to all the teams in the league.
Despite being mediocre in the regular season, the Giants have displayed a remarkable improvement in their game-play during the two playoff games.
Davis might be wondering if his desire to play the Giants was worth mentioning or not.
