Be patient with the new T20 team, urges Moin Khan – Cricket News Update
Cricket analyst and former Test skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 were not favourable for the batsmen.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced three different squads for the tour of Sri Lanka last month and made a number of changes, including the replacement of captain in the shorter format of the game.
The Green Shirts went into the T20 series as favourites because of their recent form in international sport, but they were defeated in the first match by 37 runs, before bouncing back in the second encounter at Hambantota to square the series.
Pakistan’s batsmen struggled in the competition and Moin understands that they should have performed better, although the conditions were in favour of the bowlers. However, in his article for
Dawn, the former wicketkeeper/batsman urged the officials and fans to back the inexperienced team.
The former captain feels that Pakistan tried a number of new players in the T20 squad and they should be given appropriate opportunity to prove their worth before being written-off.
Moin said, “It was evident that a lot of Pakistani cricket fans were disappointed with the team’s batting collapse. If they were hoping for a quick turn-around following the appointment of a new captain and the induction of young players, they were wrong.”
Some question marks have been raised over Hafeez's leadership skills as well and there is a school of thought that PCB made a mistake by giving him such an important responsibility.
The wicketkeeper, who was an integral part of Pakistan’s World Cup winning campaign in 1992, believes that the all-rounder should be given some time to settle down in the role. Moin is of the opinion that captaincy is a difficult art, which needs a lot of
experience.
“It’s the same with a new captain. In the case of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898, I think it was a case of double the adjustment for him as he was playing under tough conditions and was making his captaincy debut. Maybe he wasn’t able to cope with the pressure; it’s difficult
to say on the basis of two matches only,” he added.
