Question:

Be someone else Project?

I am participating in a social project where every one is to change appearance and personality for an entire week. We are expected to act in character at all times for the duration.

In terms of the type of people we are turning into, the instructor wants us to dress up as different social stereotypes. Such as valley girls, goth, jock.

We are also allowed to dress up as other stereotypes that do not necessarily associate with stereotypes socially, such as a pregnant mother or more controversially, an abused housewife.

Can all of you suggest an interesting subject for me to dress up as? A lot of the other participants are going for the shockingly short skirts and tube tops. I am really uncomfortable with showing skin, so I am opting to go with something different. Also, the examples I mentioned above have been done to death by previous years, so I need something new.

  1. How about an ex-con, someone of a different ethnicity, a homeless person (they are often looked down upon and prejudged by the masses), a janitor (a more common person to see, but also often brushed aside),  a police officer.

  2. I think goth or valley girl would be fun... but the homeless is a good subject too.

  3. Have a mental health problem, like obsessive compulsive disorder. Society tends to shun the mentally ill and look down on them, or worse just look away.  That way  you can wear the same clothes as normal just pick and outfit and wear it everyday, or be really picky about a certain way to have your hair, a scarf, a color of makeup, anything.  And repeat it constantly, so that you can't go out of a room until you do something a few times, like checking the locks or shutting off lights.

It's a terrible disorder to have if it's severe enough.  A person might have to wash their hands a lot, so that they can't even work or do anything until they wash their hands.  Or count and recount pens, papers, steps, anything,  and do it repeatedly, even interuppting what they are already doing to go back and do it again.  It would be really controversial, since a lot of people don't really understand how it can interfere with life and it would be fun in a horrible sort of way.

Mild obsessive compulsive can pass in a crowd, but I'd do moderate to severe, so it really shows up.  If you are in class you could have to get up and pace a couple of steps, acting adjitated, then sit down again. Mutter repeating ideas that are trivial, like about the weather or how Wednesday is Hump day, or its going to be hump day and how Wednesday was hump day, all week long. Only something like a dozen times in class.  It would be stereotypical of OCD people, controversial, and might be something unusual to be done.

I'd do it and have fun being a bit nuts, and making everyone else nuts too.

  4. why not go as someone of a different religion in todays world islamic would turn heads or anything that mandates the clothes you wear or the way you present yourself wear a hijab no makeup... turn heads

ocd, sick but a good idea
