Beach State University men’s volleyball team loses to Brigham Young University consecutively
The start of the weekend gone by did not at all go in the favour of the Long Beach State University men’s volleyball team.
The number four ranked LBSU suffered a defeat at the hands of the Brigham Young University on Thursday in a match that went on till four long sets. After swallowing the bitter pill, LBSU had some hope of redemption as they were up against the number second
ranked BYU again on Friday.
However, whatever plans LBSU was cooking for the second match went down the drain as the Cougars went on to make a clean sweep over their opponents. Therefore, LBSU proved to be worse off than the loss they had suffered on the previous night.
By the time the Cougars were celebrating with hoots of victory and LBSU were heading back to the locker room frustrated and with heavy hearts, the score board was telling the story of how the Cougars won the match by registering the following final set scores:
 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.
With their duo of losses, the LBSU team has now had overall season defeats that equal 12. The number of wins that they have been able to achieve in this season so far also number 12. As opposed to this, the performance of LBSU in the Mountain Pacific Sports
Federation matches have been better than that of their overall season one. They have been able to bag wins that total 10. These have been accomplished at the cost of losing nine matches in all.
In contrast to that of LBSU, both the overall season record and the MPSF statistics of the Cougars are much better. The number of victories that the Cougars have had in this season so far total at 18.
These wins have been scrapped off after suffering losses that stand at a low amount of seven. If the MPSF record of the Cougars is looked at, than the wins that BYU have had number 14. These reasons of celebrations have been generated at the expense of having
six causes of disappointment.
As soon as the first set of the match started, the Cougars were able to come out strong over LBSU. The kept the pressure on their opponents by taking the lead early on and extending it till the middle of the game at 12-7.
However, the 49ers did not give up just yet and were able to close in the gap and tie the score at 18-18. The set reached another tie at 21 but the Cougars overcame the final hurdle and sealed the deal by taking the first set of the match as their own at
25-23.
The second set of the match was led by the 49ers early on at 8-6 but it did not take the Cougars long to turn the tables towards themselves by making an 8-1 run. In the final stages of the set, the score was close at 23-20, in favour of the Cougars but the
49ers were not successful in making a win and gave the set away to BYU at 25-21.
The third set which turned out to be the final one was competitive as the 49ers struggled to bring the match to a fourth round.
However, the Cougars made sure that they do not let the match slip out of their hands and secured it at 25-22.
Next in line for LBSU is a match against University of California, Irvine that is scheduled to be played at the Walter Pyramid on Wednesday.
