Question:

Beach Volleyball...Any tips?

My sister and I are playing in a junior national beach volleyball tournament in Chicago in August but neither of us has ever played beach competitively and we don't know what to expect. We don't know how many balls were supposed to take and we pretty much know how to do book inside but the beach book is a little different. We also wanted a perspective on the competition there, is it hardcore beach players from California or just people like us trying to get a taste of what the outside game is like. Anything you know would be helpful!

  1. beach is MUCH HARDER than indoor. In beach If you mess up there is only one other person to keep the  ball from hitting the sand. there is usually one person blocking and one digging which makes it harder to go on runs. You  have to be able to cover a lot of ground very quickly. If it is a national tournament it will probably be tough competition.

Watch beach vball on tv for strategy and such kerri walsh and misty may-treanor are the best!

    Good Luck!

  2. just try your hardest.

thats the best thing you can do...

  3. i dont know exactly what its like in california..but where i live we dont do book outdoor..we just keep score. i dont exactly know what you mean by "We don't know how many balls were supposed to take" but you have 3 contacts just like indoor except that if you block it counts as one of your contacts. (if youre just beginning i would suggest not blocking)

    hope that helps

  4. i know its so much harder to play in the sand than the floor, just play like you always do

  5. before you go to the volleyball tournament, i suggest to look up beach volleyball rules because there are some differences between indoor and beach rules that will make it easier to play if you know the rules. i am going through a beach volleyball camp for the next month and today was my first day. it is way harder than indoor! the sand slows you down and the sun makes you tired way faster. i also suggest to try and get in the best fit possible before the tournament. go to a sand pit and practice jumping and taking your approach...things like that. do some calf exercises to help make your legs stronger so that it will be easier for you to run in the sand. all i can say now is good luck!
