Beach Volleyball Europe: CEV Indoor Satellite Beach Volleyball Tournament
The CEV Indoor Satellite Beach Volleyball Tournament is scheduled to take place in Aalsmeer, Netherlands for the very first time. Officially, the tournament will be kicked off on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Dutch Volleyball Federation first organized the Dutch
Open Beach Volleyball Tournament in 1996, featuring most of the European teams.
Following the great tradition of Dutch Volleyball Federation, the Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) has stepped forward to host a satellite beach volleyball tournament after fifteen years. The event is a joint venture of Dutch Volleyball Federation
(NeVoBo), CEV and Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB). For the first time in the history of the sport, FIVB points will be awarded at indoor matches.
The indoor beach volleyball tournament will be starring the greats of volleyball world. The reigning World Champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann of Germany will be competing for the title. The home side will be represented by dynamic duo of Richard
Schuil and Jon Stiekema. Shcuil was previously paired with Reinder Nummerdor and together they won three European titles. The home team will be trying hard to seize the title, while definitely there will be others keeping their eye on podium. There is great
wave of excitement among the local fans as they will get a chance to raise their voices in support of “Oranje” team.
Emiel Boersma and Dann Spijkers of the Netherlands will also participate at the tournament. The duo earned a wild-card entry along with Canadian pair Martin Reader and Chaim Schalk to the event.
The tournament will be opened with the Country Quota playoffs. The qualifying teams will be promoted to the next stage of “Qualification Tournament.” The tournament will further progress in the Main Draw stage. Ultimately, the “final four” matches will be
featured and the CEV Indoor Beach Volleyball Tournament will complete its run.
The president of CEV, Andre Meyer is hopeful for the success of this tournament. He said: “This first indoor Satellite will give an impetus to European winter competitions, which will ensure that the European Beach Volleyball teams can test out their condition
also during their preparations for the summer season as they vie for a spot to be included in the starting field of the 2012 Olympics in London.”
