Beach Volleyball latest: Injury ends the career of Austrian player, Florian Gosch
Tragically true that a severe knee injury has forced the Austrian Beach Volleyball player, Florian Gosch to retire from his Beach Volleyball career before time. Gosch competed at the podiums of FIVB SWATCH World Tour for many years and represented his country
with a lot of glory. Gosch appeared in almost 100 SWATCH Tour events. He was attached to different partners in his long career, which spanned over ten seasons. He was paired with Simon Nausch, Bernhard Strauss and lately with Alex Horst. The partnership with
Horst was formed in 2007. They made good progress together and captured bronze-ware in Aland, Finland in 2007 during the FIVB SWATCH World Tour. They also finished in fifth position at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
In the recent years, he suffered from knee injury, which hindered his performance. Nonetheless, Gosch never lost heart and continued playing with the ongoing injury. He was determined to play at 2012 London Olympics but the knee injury forced him to change
his mind. He discovered that the knee aching is increasing and he cannot continue his Beach Volleyball career in such conditions.
Talking of his recent practices and injury, he said, “Until very recently I have been struggling to be able to start preparations for the Olympics in London [in 2012] and was positive to succeed. Anyway, the time has come, where the condition of my knee
makes it impossible to continue playing. The constant pain as well as several experts‘advice left no doubt that there was no way of pursuing my professional career.”
His partner Horst regretted Bosch’s departure. He expressed his views, “It‘s a pity Flo has to finish his career prematurely. We planned to tackle the qualification process for the London 2012 Olympics and still had many goals to achieve. Florian‘s injury
thwarted our plan - winning an Olympic medal - and leaves me without a partner. The weeks to come will show who my new partner will be. I am thankful that Flo picked me as a partner back in 2007 and offered me the opportunity of becoming a professional athlete.
I want to thank him and wish Florian all the best for the future.”
It is pretty sad that the knee injury has ended Florian’s career. Nonetheless, he is happy with the fact that finally he is going to have some quality time with his family.
