Im going to be going to a beach soon and i want to fish. Can you simply start fishing in the shore and cast into the ocean? If so, what kind of bait should i use and other tips please. I am fishing in the east side of the U.S.

  1. Check with some bait & tackle shops in the area you will be fishing. They can give you a heads up on whats happening in the area and what tides are the best. They may also direct you to a few alternate locations if the fish aren't cooperating. It doesn't hurt to ask. The suggestion to get a cast net is good advice and a sound investment that'll last you a long time. I fish the Northeast a lot and have come to rely on a fine mesh cast net. It's good for the smaller baits like minnows and spearing. Now get out there and catch a bunch!!!

  2. some good answers there but if you've not used a beachcaster before then be carefull. these things can cast 6oz and more and if you dont know what you're doing you will brain yourself. i suggest a quiet pice of land and practice with 1oz until you get the hang of it. tight lines

  3. If you are going to be fishing on the eastern shores, your best bet would be the inter coastal waterway. This time of year invest in a $20 cast net and catch you some mullet minnows.Fish with a Carolina rig= 2/0 hook with a 18" 30# test leader with a barrel swivel then tie your line to that.Thread the mullet minnow from under his jaw up through the top of the head, just don't go to far near his brain.Cast out and slowly crank it in on the bottom, and "whoa", flounder, speckle trout, drum. Good Luck

  4. You've got some good information,a ll i can add is fish it whilst the tide is on the flood or coming in, check the tides by using this to find the best times.

  5. Yes, you can fish on the beach, this is called surf fishing.  You also should have a valid fishing license. Some areas require you to buy seperate license for saltwater fishing, just go to your local Wal-Mart tell them where you're going to fish and they will guide you in the right direction. As for the bait you should use shrimp is the best option for almost any specie and you're more apt to catch fish, bloodworms are also a good all-around bait. Hope I helped you, and GOOD LUCK!
