Beach party for a 11 yr old??

Ok, so im going to help a friend organize her daughter's birthday on the beach soo..um i need some suggestions on activities & food.

The tropic theme works, limbo, volleyball, other sand games. Like relay races where contestants have to put on various articles or balance plastic pineapples on spoons.

food - anything you don't mind getting sand into. lol

I agree with the suggestions for a tropical/luau-type theme.  You can get pretty-much everything you could need for that theme at orientaltrading.com

do hawiian themed grass skirts, flower garlands limbo and lots of exotic food! its really good fun! it can be as kiddy or as grown up as you like!

I also like the luau theme.  Hit up party city for those fifty cent leis and cheap grass skirts!  Cool photo ops!  You guys could have limbo contests.  The beach fire idea would be great for it too!  You guys could roast hot dogs (can't go wrong with hot dogs, right) marshmellows even do virgin drinks like daiquiris and pina colladas(sp?).  If you want to keep it on the healthy side, pineapples if they are in season would be excellent and they taste great grilled (to me anyways).  And it would work with the theme.
