Please explain in own words how the ball isn't allowed to be passed to the other side using some hitting way allowed in ordinary volleyball.

  1. In beach doubles and triples, the block does count as a team contact.  Indoor, the block does not count as one of the 3 team contacts.

If two players contact the ball simultaneously, it is counted as two team contacts.  Indoors counts only one.

If the players uses finger action to play a slow moving first ball, it must be clean.  If a player uses finger action on any first ball, it may be multiple contacted.

If a player uses finger action on a hard driven ball, it may be momentarily held or multiple contacted.  Indoors, it may be multiple contacted only.  If it is momentarily held, it is a violation.

A player may enter the opponents court provided there is no interference.  Indoors, the hand or foot may be on or above the centerline and no other part may touch across the centerline.

No contact with the net outdoors.  Indoors, there is an exception if the player is not in the action of playing the ball.

There is a common rule that has the player that is send the ball over with their hands must be facing where they are sending the ball.  It is not in the current rules.  Indoors, that is not even a common rule.  It is not in the book either.

  2. Ya I do not believe there is any other rule to beach  volleyball. It's the same, just harder cause of the sand.

  3. To my knowledge, you are not allowed to open hand dink or set the ball across the net in beach play.  Open hand dinking in 2 man ball would give too much advantage to one team, and make it unfair to play because there are only 2 players on the teams.  Setting the ball across the net can be legal if it is done in a "free ball" maneuver, instead of set an inch over the net.

It's never a good idea to do either, though...except on the hard wood.

  4. In my experience, it has been the other way around. Indoor volleyball is quite a bit stricter in general hitting rules, while beach volleyball sets are often illegal by indoor standards.

One hit that happens in indoor volleyball is the back-row attack where a player starting from the back row needs to jump from behind the 10 ft line to be able to hit the ball over the net (otherwise the player's feet must be on the ground if they started in the back row and are hitting the ball over the net.) This hit is not done in beach volleyball because there isn't a backrow, so practically every hit is done near the net.

  5. ... u can bump, set or spike... its all the same. just with or without sand.
