Beaches close and convenient to nyc?

i'd like to take a day trip to the beach. we don't have a car but can easily get to the long island rail road. can anyone recommend a nice beach within walking distance to the LIRR thats not Too far from nyc? Please let me know what beach you recommend. thank you!!

Within the city limits you could go out to Coney Island or Brighton Beach.  Go to mta.info and check the map.  They are both in Brooklyn and easy to get to.

You could also take the LIRR to freeport and make a bus connection to Jones Beach.  I think that it is the #62 bus.  Same site as above will give you info.

Why not just go to Orchard Bch. Coney, Rockaway, Jacob Reiss, Breighton. They're all in NYC.

You can take the LIRR from penn station to Oyster Bay. The train is literally three blocks from the beach. Be sure to bring towels!! It also has snack bars and other things. The oyster bay area has a nice italian ice stand within walking distance from the beach. They sell hot dogs, french fries, mozzarella sticks, and more.
