Beaches in Northern Virginia?

What are some good beaches in northern Virginia? I will be going there this weekend.

  1. When folks in Northern Virginia want to spend the day at an ocean beach, they either go to the Maryland and Delaware shore (places like Ocean City and Rehobeth), or south to the Virginia shore (places like Virginia Beach).  Figure a three hour drive, minimum, with LOTS of traffic.

    There are a number of water parks in the area, though, including Splash Down in Manassas and the Water Mine in Reston.


  2. There are some beaches along the Potomac river but the water is really dirty.  

  3. Sorry there are no good ones in Northern VA ...we only have lakes!  The closest ones would be going east into Maryland toward the Bay Bridge (Sandy Point) or you could also drive southeast past Richmond to the Tidewater area south of Williamsburg VA around Hampton...
