There are several different areas on or close to the beachfront, and as another good "answerer" has mentioned , places like Ramblas would need to be considered if you want to add a bit of "character" into your trip.

The reason why Ramblas has so many hotels and accommodation places is because it's attractive to visitors. It also isn't that far from the beach.
