1. would a daily walk and playing fetch with him a couple times a day be enough exercise for him? my mom says he needs to be somewhere where he can run, but if i let him out of the house without a lead, he takes off as fast as he can. i barely get him to come back to me.

2. i want to train him to stay, get back, down, and other obedience stuff, but he isn't big on treats. he is a picky eater. so what do i use to reward him?

if you can answer any of the 2 questions that would be great! thanks!

  1. the walk and fetch is good exercise, is he in a crate all day~cause thats not good.  but my dogs dont run loose when we walk but they have the kitchen to run when im gone and the yard when im home.

as for training let me know how that goes cause it isnt working for me either

  2. well i used to have a beagle and he did the same you will need a run for him. its actually really hard to train a beagle cuz there energy. mine was trampled by my grandpas spanish bull cuz he wouldnt stop chasing him.

    to take on treats

try giving him some dried beef jerky teryaki if you can mine was a picky eater as well and thats all i could get him to eat

  3. 1. You can bring him to a park and run with him, when he is on leash. plus everything else you said.

    2. If he isn't food driven, praise him with affection, that's how i trained my dog :)

  4. I have a beagle mix, as long as the walk is really long he should be fine. Being part beagle your dog should be given as many opportunities as possible to use his sniffer. It's also the beagle in him that makes him run away, since his instinct is to smell!

You have a dog that's part beagle and he's PICKY? I don't believe it! Try enticing him with cheerios, bits of chicken, or dried liver. Something should get him.

  5. 1) That should be enough exercise for him, maybe sometimes more, sometimes less. Maybe two walks would be better, in addition to fetch, and other outdoor activities. See if there are any local dog parks in your area, you'd be surprised! A lot of state parks, or reservations allow dogs, so you could probably safely let your dog off leash there, if thats somewhat local! I let my lab off leash there, and he loves it! Plus, its good exercise for him, and it tires him out!

    2) Well, look online for some dog treat recipes. My dog is far from being a picky eater, but as soon  as I bring out the homemade treats, he goes crazy! They are usually a lot healthier for your dog than other treats. that have preservatives and chemicals, plus you can throw in any vegetables into the mix for an even healthier treat. I freeze mine for up to two weeks, even though they are usually gone by them, and he thinks that they are rawhides!

Good luck, and I hope I helped!

  6. Answer 1) I had a jack Russell and live in town so I know your position. If you ride a bike there is a bike jogger for your dog. It connects on to your bike and the dog runs beside you. My jack Russell was out of breathe after a hour.

Answer 2) If your dog likes a certain toy you can use it as a reward. If that doesn't work you can try just praising him and making him feel happy.

    Hope this helps
