Beamazed lands victory in Cumberland Show Handicap Chase at Carlisle
After a few terrible outings, Beamazed finally regained his winning momentum, landing victory in the Cumberland Show Handicap Chase, hosted by Carlisle on Monday, February 20, 2012.
The speedy gelding displayed a steady run followed by a strong finish to take his first win since November last year.
With 13 contenders in the line-up, the 3-mile 2-furlong event started off at 15:40.
The going was heavy and there were 15 fences on the course.
Under Denis O'Regan, the eight-year-old made a fine beginning. He capitalised on a good start to achieve a reasonable lead.
Malcolm Jefferson’s horse further enhanced his advantage at the final moments, beating Vamizi by staggering five lengths.
By performing brilliantly in the Class 3 meeting, Beamazed earned a lot of praise alongside a purse worth of £5,653.26.
While the champion gelding defeated the rest of the pack comfortably, the spectators at Carlisle witnessed a nail-biting contest between Vamizi and My Boy Paddy.
In the beginning, Vamizi held up towards the rear; however, the nine-year-old quickly pumped up his pace to become prominent just before the finishing line.
My Boy Paddy ran side by side with him but Lucinda Russell’s trainee eventually breezed him past inside the final few furlongs. Vamizi ended up with a strong finish but was unable to match Beamazed’s speed.
Despite all the hard work, My Boy Paddy remained slightly unlucky and suffered an embarrassing loss by three quarters of a length.
After a steady run, the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained chased the leaders superbly at the final moments.
However, luck was not kind to him, as the eight-year-old narrowly missed the runner-up spot.
The race proved to be a nightmare for Do It For Dalkey, trained by Lucinda Russell.
With odds of 7-2, the 10-year-old was rated as the most favourite. Although the gelding made a fine impression by tracking the leaders early on, he got weakened afterwards.
As a result, the jockey, Peter Buchanan pulled him up ahead of the last few furlongs.
Do It For Dalkey’s connections would have been seriously disappointed with the outcome.
On the other hand, Malcolm Jefferson was happy with his trainee’s powerful performance.
