Beanie Wells set to return on Sunday
Running back Beanie Wells participated in a limited workout on Wednesday and a full practise on Thursday. Now analysts are predicting his return for Sunday’s big game.
When asked about Wells’ playing potential Cardinal’s coach Ken Whisenhunt said, “I’m pleased with Beanie, he did some limited work today. We’re going to really test him tomorrow. He should practise Friday, which would obviously give him a chance to play.”
It was during a pre-season final game against the Washington Redskins that Wells bruised his right knee. Despite a short-term prognosis he missed the subsequent week of practise. Most still believed the Cardinals were all set to play Wells against the St.
Louis Rams last Sunday in the season’s opening. But come game time he was sidelined. Despite his absence the Cardinals still beat out the Rams in a close 17-13 victory.
Victory aside, compatibility issues between wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and quarterback Derek Anderson were obvious. Anderson is new to the Arizona outfit and he still doesn’t have a full understanding of their offense. If they want to win games, they’ll
need an experienced player to take some weight off the new quarterback. They’ll need to capitalize on their running game. They’ll need Beanie Wells.
Wells is no stranger to injury. During his stint at Ohio State in 2007 he suffered an ankle sprain, a right wrist sprain and a thumb fracture. In 2008 it was a right foot sprain, a right wrist sprain, a hamstring strain and a concussion that kept him off
the field for several big games. It was his last season before turning pro. After turning pro he injured his right ankle during his first practise in his first training camp. And just a few weeks ago he injured his right knee.
This Sunday two NFC contenders are facing off. It’s the Arizona Cardinals against the Atlanta Falcons. If the Cardinals want to come out on top, they’ll need Beanie Wells and the running game he provides.
