  1. You are kidding right?    Please think about what you just wrote.   Do you really think some beans are meat?  Beans are neither veggie or meat.  They are legumes.

  2. They are a source of protein and are called legumes. They aren't meat, but they have protein and meat has protein too so they are in the same group on the food pyramid.

  3. they are a legume however; some people mistakenly classify them as vegetables since they are grown in the 'vegetable' garden from plants.  They are a very cheap source of protein however they are not meat.

  4. Neither it's a legume but it is a decent source of protein.

  5. Fruit

  6. For the sake of being a vegetarian or vegan, all raw/uncooked beans are a vegetable (technically a legume, like peas or peanuts, but close enough).

They do have a fair bit of protein though, and can be substituted into a meatless diet (I've been told to eat rice too if you do this, as it makes a more complete replacement of the types of proteins found in meat).

As far as canned beans go, you always want to buy a can that specifically says "Vegetarian".  Most canned beans have beef or pork ingredients which make for a better flavor and texture (unless you're looking for a meat-free lifestyle).

PETA runs a site called accidentally vegan.  It lists foods which were not specifically designed to be vegan, but just happen to be anyway, including Hormel Vegetarian Chili, Old El Paso Fat-Free Refried Beans, and several Zatarain's products (Ready to Serve Jambalaya Rice, Red Beans & Rice, Black Beans & Rice, Black-Eyed Peas & Rice, Jambalaya, Gumbo Mix With Rice, and Dirty Rice Mix).

You'll find Accidentally Vegan at http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/

  7. Well, beans are legumes.  They are a rich source of protein (like meat) and other vitamins...I do not know of any that are considered meat or veggies for that matter, they are just legumes...

  8. Beans are a plant, specifically a legume (not a vegetable.)  None of them are considered meat because meat is the flesh of an animal.  Meat is not a plant, plants are not meat.
