  1. My money would be on the tiger. Though some species of bear, like the polar and brown bear, can weigh more than tigers, most of their weight comes from their large, heavy skeletons and considerable amount of body-fat. By contrast, a tiger's skeleton is quite small given the size of the animal, and its body-fat is minimal - most of its weight comes from its enormous musculature. Tigers have evolved to hunt prey considerably larger than they are - they have to be immensely strong in order to bring down animals like gaur and water buffalo. They also have much larger canines than bears, and the shortened muzzle and large sagittal crest on the skull gives them more powerful jaws. Not to mention their eighteen razor-sharp claws (bears' claws are non-retractile, and therefore blunt from constant contact with the ground). Brown bears, on the other hand, are largely vegetarian. They will occasionally take meat, but it is usually either carrion or young, inexperienced animals that are easy to catch. Polar bears are the most carnivorous of the bears, but again their prey - seals - are considerably smaller than they are, meaning they do not require as much strength to kill them.

  2. This seems like one of those "Who would win in a fight" questions...

Regardless, the question is too vague to be properly answered. There are a few different species bears that vary greatly in size and then more sub-species. As far as I know, there are 6 sub-species of tiger alive today that also vary, but not as greatly as bears.

  3. Grizzly bear average 490-1496 lbs, brown bear 725-2500 lbs, polar bear 1150-2210 lbs. Indo-Chinese tiger 440 lbs average, bengal tiger 550 avg., Siberian Tiger 600-1025 lbs. Take the two biggest; Polar Bear 1150-2210 lbs or Brown Bear 725-2500 lbs vs Siberian Tiger 600-1025 lbs, I would give the edge to the bear, jaws plus arm strength, more weight more strength.
