Question:

Bearded Dragon & Humidity ?

I have a 60 gallon set up going for my BD and he's doing well so far that I can see and tell ...only problem so far seems to be keeping the humidity low ..its at between 50% and 60% which I think is way too high ....all the other temps are ideal for a baby beardie ...so, How can I lower the humidity without killing my wallet or risking injury to him either ?? I'm always leery of putting electrical stuff in his tank ..so advice would be appreciated :)

  1. You should always have a water bowl, and you should never have lettuce. You should be feeding them collards, turnip greens, squash, or dandelion greens.

Make sure the water bowl is not by the humididy gauge. And make sure it is on the cool side of the tank. What is your substrate (the stuff at the bottom of the tank). It should not be loose (i.e. bark chips, sand, etc...).

It should be solid like tiles, carpet, non adhesive shelf liner, or paper towels. The loose substrate will hold onto moisture, not to mention cause impaction. And some solid substrates such as reptile carpet, and paper towels could hold onto moisture. try using tiles or the shelf liner. Non adhesive shelf liner is fairly cheap at lowe's, and tiles are very very easy to clean.

  2. take the water dish out I never give my beardies water they should get it from the r lettuce you give it

  3. well if the water bowl is near the humidity gage then thats what is makeing it go up or if you have a large bwol i would try takeing out the water bowl for like a hour and see if thats the prob

  4. it all depends on what your substrate is. a good low humidity choice is to get repti-carpet.
