My bearded dragon, Rocky, has a really good orange colour around his face and shoulders. He has a tinge of red going down his back as well. I have pictures:

Does anyone know what morph he is? Personally I think it could be some sort of Sandfire but I'd like to make sure what morph he is. Also from the pictures can anyone strike a guess at how old he is? he's around 35 cm long.

  1. Judging from the head shape, 'he' could very well be a she.  The head is pretty long and narrow compared to most males.  Unless you've seen the hemipenes then I would assume it's a females.

It's most likely a normal as it has true grays which hypos (pastels) don't...or at least that's what the color looks like on my monitor.  Even normals have a wide variety of colors and markings.  Hypos usually have a little more color or are nearly white.  It is definitely *NOT* a sandfire as those are a very bright, rich gold/orange, often with some red and people joke that you need sunglasses just to look at them.  Yours isn't anywhere close to having enough color to be a sandfire and no sandfire that I know of is grey.  My female hypo (only slightly larger) has more brilliant color without any grey...even her beard is a brilliant orange-it is likely that she is from a sandfire hypo line because of all the brilliant yellow and orange.

Also, keep in mind that some beardies can completely change in appearance at around 8 months old so there is no guarentee it will stay like that.

35cm~14inches which means that it's anywhere between 3 and 8 months, depending on how you've been feeding it.  Mine is 4.5 months and is over 15" but she is allowed to eat her fill of appropriately sized crickets once a day and we're thinking that she might be from a GG line.  Most beardies seem to not grow quite so fast.

A lot of petstores say to only feed them (even babies) only a small amount ever other day...when babies of any species are supposed to be eating almost constantly...which is why they tend to stay small or die young.  Mine was just cut down to once a day feedings a couple weeks ago.  Every other day cricket feedings shouldn't start until a beardie is full grown at 8-12 months.  Veggies should be offered at all times for all ages of beardies.

  2. i'm pretty sure this is a normal beardie because i've got 1 (six months) and hes developing orange around those areas too

  3. uh haha dude its just a normal bearded dragon

  4. Actually he looks like he could be a pastel morph. People forget how dull a true bearded dragon is.

Those yellows are very bright and could be considered a morph called pastel. With Pastels they hate to show how pretty they can be and are often darker than their "best" colour.
