  1. OK, I work for a vet.  We treat reptiles.  We see sand impaction rather frequently.  Sometimes it is fatal.  Please do not use sand in lizard cages!!!  Use non-adhesive shelf liner or reptile carpet.  Sand is NOT NATURAL.  They live on hard packed dirt, scrub, rocks, shrubs, etc. and are not forced to p**p and eat in a small enclosure!  Sand also harbors bacteria and parasites.

Calci-sand is NOT digestible...it packs up like a brick when digested.  It is not worth the risk.  Yes, some people will tell you they've used it "for years" without any problem.  What that means is they haven't had a problem YET.

  2. NO!!!!  This is horrible!  Take him out of there immediatly!  He could get impacted and die.  Go up to the pet store and get Reptile Carpet, Calci-Sand is awful.  Get rid of it now if you want your bearded dragon to live!

  3. its only harmful to them when they are little. the reason companys sell "Calcium sand" is because they eat it and its just another sorce of calcium for it.  my  boyfriends beardie is around the same age as yours. so its fine i know from experience.

  4. Calcium sand is edible and provides beneficial calcium, but it should not be used because it has dust that might clog his respiratory tract. It's meant for use with hermit crabs, mostly.
