Question:

Bearded Dragon Sleeping Habits?

by  |  earlier

I just got myself a baby bearded dragon, and I am pretty sure it is a female as it does the common "wave" that is performed by the female gender of the species.

She is very young, im not exactly sure how old as she was a gift and I failed to ask her age, but she is only about 4 or 5 inches long really.

However when she sleeps at night she sleeps in very odd positions and I can hardly tell she is breathing, also she shows no response to me when I touch her or make a noise, she doesnt even open her eyes to see what it was.

But in the day time she is completely fine, she will run around and eats and drinks regularly.

Does anyone know why she might be sleeping like this or if it is normal for the bearded dragon to not respond while asleep?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. My daughter and I have had a beardie for 4 years now and he also sleeps very soundly and in some odd positions.  One of his favorite places to sleep is with his front feet up against the glass and his back feet on the ground...almost like he's standing on his tail!!  As long as she is alert and active during the day, I wouldn't really worry about it...it may be because she's still a baby too.

  2. We just bought 2 eight week old beardies. On the first night we had them we turned out the lights and they ran to seperate ends of the cage and one was standing on hind legs the other was laying flat, they closed their eyes and went to sleep. As soon as I turned on the light the next morning they both sprung to life. They do sleep very heavily, (look it up) that is why you cannot leave crickets in over night, when they sleep they can be eaten. My male and female both wave and they have kissed. Now that they have bonded they sleep on tope of each other in an embrace almost on the log.

  3. They tend to sleep wherever they are when the lights go out, mine sleeps with her neck on a piece of vine, the first time i saw it i was worried she was strangling herself but she's fine, maybe make sure she is in a comfy position before the lights are out but its completely normal!!

  4. When i first got my dragons i thought one had escaped but it had dug its way under a tiny pot of cress i'd put in!I worried for months wondering if i was caring for it right but that all goes in time!
