Bearded dragon advice please!?

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on my bearded dragon please? He is 1 year old and in fine in himself, he’s eating properly and not acting any different to usual but I have noticed his mouth has changed. His lower jaw now sticks out at the front and on one side, not a great deal but enough to notice. It wasn’t like this before. He doesn’t seem to suffer any discomfort but it’s worrying. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Does he need to see a vet?

  1. can you coax him to open his mouth so you can see? look at teeth alignment and jaw structure. also how he chews/bites. it might be just the way he is growing but that seems a little odd. if you are really worried a little checkup wouldn't hurt.

  2. This could be a vitamin D deficiency.  Does he get enough UV rays?  Do you supplement his food?  If lizards do not get enough supplemented food and a UV light bone structure can be deformed.

  3. hmmm im not to sure maybe a weird growth spurt or he has a gum or tooth infection check the inside of his mouth if he will let you and if you see anything or if your still concerned you should tske him to the vet better safe then sorry right?

  4. Any significant change in your beardies appearence or behaviour requires a vets visit. At my vet it will cost £25 and £19 per additional visit. It was also £60 for xrays, which is what i think you'l need.

Ok, so because it hasn't always been like that, it sounds like it isn't genetic.

The things that could cause it imo are:

    - Broken bones - could he have fallen?

    - Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) - Does he have a 10.0 UV tube within 12 inches that is changed every 6 month? Do you dust his bugs and veggies with calcium? Do you feed him a lot of spinach (bad)?

    - Absess - sometimes happen and the swelling could be pushing the jaw out of line...

Needs vet imo but hopefully it shouldn't be fatal.
