I have a 10 inch female bearded dragon, and sometime soon, possibly getting a 19 inch male bearded dragon. I was wondering... How would I go about putting them together? How would I make it so that there both eating well, not fighting, and just living well.. Please, I need your help, and I don't know anything else to do to find answers.

  1. Beardies are territorial, and their mating can be brutal/savage.  A single female with the male will be harrassed and stressed, as well as most likely injured.  She will most likely become to intimidated to eat.

Then there is the matter of enough calcium for her, brooding the eggs, caring for all those young.  Is it your intent to become a BD breeder?

If so, you need a HUGE tank, and to rearrange everything before putting them in together, and standing ready to save the female, cause a 19" male will win the fight with a 10" female.  IMHO, I would say the female is too young for breeding, in the first place.

The safest course here is to keep them in separate tanks.  Even being able to see each other across the room can cause stress and anger.

You need to learn a lot more about beardie behavior and mating before you attempt to cohab two together.

I'll post some links below so you can study up on all you need to know before getting the male.

Kuddos for researching/asking before getting the lizard and just tossing it 'in there.'

An informed owner is a happy one with healthy and content pets.

Good luck, and I hope this has been helpful.

  2. do you plan on breeding them or you just do u want them to be friends

  3. It all depends on the situation. First of all you need to worry about introducing any ailments to one another. Unless you are absolutely sure they both have a clean bill of health you need to keep them quarantined for a week or 2, in the least. Next I would put them into aquariums side by side so they can get introduced to one another. Put them as close to one another as possible. They are a pretty tough animal so they should not cause any stress to one another. Once I have felt comfortable they are used to each others company I would then place the male into the females cage( be sure they are not both males or you might have a mess on your hands ). Keep a close eye on them so they don't hurt one another and then once you are comfortable that they are comfortable you can then leave them to themselves. You might want to separate them for the majority of the time at first. For instance keep them separated when you are at work and then put them together when you get home. Be careful at feeding time, you might want to separate them during feeding esp at first. Every dragon is different as you probably know so there is no set guideline. Most of the time you can have dragons together with absolutely no problem. Size has a lot to do with compatibility b/c as you know most dragons have a  ferocious appetite and a large dragon with very small ones isn't very appealing. So just be smart b/c only you can really gauge what is best when it comes to your dragon's. They are amazing creatures that never leave you unsatisfied. There are many different factors you have to address like age, size, personality and temperament. If I had no idea what 2 dragons temperaments were I first would just put them side by side in aquariums for some time to gauge their reactions esp. if they are not used to other dragon's presence. Just be smart, only you, their owner know the situation so good luck.

  4. you just had another question like this. You don't you need to take care of what you have. They have massive jaws and can crush each other's bones. If you can't afford another tank don't get it.

A 19 inch male will crush a 10 inch female. If you have 2 together they won't be living well, they will be surviving. especially your female.
