  1. Remember babies are fragile.

You don't want to skimp and maybe cause sickness and death just because you don't want to buy extra equipment.

The safest, most effective way is a UV lamp.

The only other alternative is direct sunlight.

NOT through the window or aquarium glass.  You can cook your dragon if you let too much sun shine on him through glass.  (It works like an oven)

Unless you live in the desert, an outdoor (predator proof) pen is not possible.  Even if you do live in a hot, dry climate, you also have to provide enough shade so he doesn't burn.

You have to make sure outdoor temps are going to be comfy for him all day.  You have to run home and save him if the weather suddenly turns.

    Predators are a big risk.

Baby bearded dragons are food to pretty much anything.  What can't climb into the cage will dig under it.

    Just get a lamp!

If you're not willing to care for the dragon to the best of your ability, give it to someone who will.

  2. UVb is needed for the production of D3 which helps  to metabolize calcium. Metabolic bone disease (MBD) is an umbrella term that covers a number of disorders related to the weakening of the bone or impaired systems function caused by an imbalance in vitamin D3, calcium and phosphorus. This imbalance may be caused by a lack of or too much of one of these three essential elements or the failure to provide one or more of them in a bioavailable form.

With out UV lighting you  are looking at improper growth and development that can lead to death.

    Add:

I do not advise using  D3 supplements.  It can cause a toxic build up of the vitamin and encourages the reptiles system to absorb excessive calcium. Thiscan cause calcification of soft tissues and impeded of joint movement, malformed bones with external calcium deposits ("bunions"), impaired nerve function, impaired flexibility of the valves of the heart, and destruction of the kidney's nephrons.

  3. Idk what you are talking about. You should have a reptISUN (not reptasun, or reptiglo) 10.0 tube light.

Not all lizards need uvb. Leopard geckos, and crested geckos do not. They are active at night. Most nocturnal species don't need a uvb bulb. but it is best to check with repticzone.com first.

  4. DRAGONS DONT HAVE BEARDS! silly, dragons breath fire and fly not have beards!

  5. I wouldn't advise it.  All reptiles and some other pets need the UVB rays in order to absorb calcium.  If they don't absorb calcium they can have health problems that can lead to death.

  6. you could if you had the right vitamins, but i wouldnt i would just get the uva bulb at a minimum.

  7. Why would you want to go around that??

    maybe you can help me?
