Bearded/rankins dragon diet question?

i've been thinking about getting either a chameleon (bit scared now that it might be too difficult...) or a bearded/rankins dragon.

i'm wondering if and to what extent you could replace the live insects with meat or something (not asking about the chameleon obviously)? one of the websites said you can give them dog food...?

please only answer if you actually have personal experience with these animals!

(and please don't get upset and tell me off for not wanting to give the animal proper food! i'm doing my research and this is just a question - i'm not saying i wouldn't give the animal what it needs)

you don't want to be giving your bearded dragon dog food. It's too high in fat for one. I wouldn't even want to give it to my savannah monitor who eats strictly meat. Cat food is a little better than dog food, but I still wouldn't give cat food to a dragon. as they get older, veggies become their primary diet. They have specially formulated dragon food, that may be something that you'd be interested in. You can also give them freeze dried insects, or wax/super/silk worms and they can sometimes be kept in the fridge.

i own a rankins and never give him meat, as they get older they prefer mostly greens anyway and only eat live food once or twice a week, mine eats crickets and locusts a couple of times a week with loads of veggies every day, www.beautifuldragons.com is a very helpful website with a list of good veggies to give beardies or rankins, they are almost the same except the rankins dont grow as big, but their dietary requirements are the same

i give my beardie, bearded dragon pellets from Rep-cal the only promblem is that u have to train them to eat them. how i trained mine is that i put it in a bowl,sprayed a little water so its moist, and just left the room. when he gets hungry he'll eat. its not cruel. i also give him some vegies everyday. he is 6 months of pure healthy.
