Question:

Beardie Feeding? - How many times a day?

I have a one month old beardie (Titan) and I'm starting to feed him in a seperate tank. I have a really goofy work schedule (5:30 am - 2:00 pm with me waking up at 5 and not having time for a breakfast with Titan, LOL). I know we're supposed to feed babies 2-3 times a day, but I can't do the usual morning feeding and the night feeding like most people do, so would it be ok to feed him at like 2:30 pm and then again at 8:00 pm before bed or do you think just the one time should be enough? I put about a dozen in with him and he usually eats about 8-10 at a time. What are your suggestions? I don't want him going hungry, but I don't want to wake up at 4:30 in the morning just to have time to feed him, LOL.

  1. A bearded dragon that is 1 month old must eat insects 3 times a day, and be offered greens at least once! You have to put them in a seperate cage and let him eat as many (insects) as he wants in a period of 15 minutes each time. They can eat up to 100 crickets a day! Baby dragons also need Repcal calcium+D3 5 times weekly, so put it on one feeding of crickets a day for 5 days, and they need Herpitive Multi-Vitamin 2 times a week, so put it on the crickets one feeding a day for 2 days.   Make sure you have a ReptiSUN 10.0 flourescent TUBE light so he can process the calcium, or he will get MBD. The light should be 6-8 inches away from him.

Baby dragons must be fed so often (3x a day), because they need the protein to grow properly. If they do not get the protein, their growth can be stunted, and they can become ill.

Beardies (off any age) must NOT be fed until they have a chance to warm up. They NEED the heat to be able to digest; otherwise, they may throw up. Your dragon's lights HAVE to be on at least one hour before the first feeding of the day, and MUST be one at least 1-2 hours after the last feeding.

If you don't want to get up early to turn the lights on so he can eat before you leave, buy a timer. You can get them at your petstore, or get them cheaper at a store like Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or Lowes. You can set the timer to turn the lights on and off for you, so you can still feed him.

If you just can't get the third feeding in no matter what you do, make sure you leave a large salad in his cage for him so he can have something to eat between his 2 feedings of insects. Go to http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.co... for what they can and can't eat.

Also, make sure you are gutloading your crickets, so they have the highest nutritional value possible. You can feed a number of commercial diets from your petstore. I have used "Monster cricket diet" "Fluker's high calcium cricket feed" "Fluker's Cricket Quencher" and "T-Rex Calcium Plus Food For Crickets". I give the crickets a dish of 1/2 Monster and 1/2 Fluker's feed. Then I give a dish of Cricket Quencher, and sprinkle a bit of the "calcium plus" calcium "balls" around the rubbermade bin I raise the crickets in. They eat all that within 2 days, so make sure you check them often. You can also pour a little RepCal and Herptivite in the cage too, and offer them some fresh greens. Doing all that will keep them healthy, so they will keep your dragon more healthy.

    Good Luck!
