Bears' QB Jay Cutler believes Brett Favre could have returned for big money – NFL News
With Chicago Bears facing problems in the quarterback position since the injury to regular starter Jay Cutler, Bears have been linked to a multitude of quarterbacks including retired Brett Favre. Even though both Favre and Bears
management have denied any contact and link a comeback as pure fantasy Jay Cutler believes there are other motivations to pull Favre out of retirement.
"He didn't really expect Brett to come back," Cutler said. "Brett probably would have came back, but I'm sure it would have to be a very, very high number money-wise, and it would have been interesting.
With news reports suggesting that the 20 year veteran quarterback would have been willing to listen had Bears called, being dismissed by both parties it seems that Chicago Bears are happy with their current options in quarterback.
Favre himself has released a statement denying any plans to return back to the field saying
"Inspite (sic) of reports about playing with various teams, I'm enjoying retirement with my family and have no plans to play football," Favre said in the statement Tuesday night. "I haven't contacted nor have been contacted by
any teams and all reports are inaccurate."
Cutler who is out since game week 11 with a thumb fracture sustained during the match against San Diego Chargers will most probably not play any part in the remaining regular season games and has been replaced by Caleb Hanie in
the quarterback position.
However, Hanie has struggled in both the games he started for the Bears throwing six interceptions. Chicago Bears who still have their playoff fate in their own hands have now lost both their games without Cutler with a 10-3 defeat
against Kansas City Chiefs at home last Sunday particularly painful.
Favre retired from playing football at the end of last season. The veteran was drafted in 1991 as a second round draft pick by Atlanta Falcons. He only played just a single season for Falcons before moving onto the Green Bay Packers
where he would spend 16 years and enjoy a glittering career.
A single season with New York Jets followed in 2008 before Favre moved on to Minnesota Vikings where he spent the final two years of his career before retiring.
