Bears LB Lance Briggs wants to renegotiate contract with Bears - NFL News
Linebacker and Pro-Bowler Lance Briggs has become the latest Bears player to send a message to the Bears management to start contract negotiations with him.
On Wednesday Bears wide receiver Roy Williams showed his willingness to resign for Chicago Bears with his contract expiring at the end of the year. Linebacker Lance Briggs joined Williams in the quest for a contract renegotiation.
The linebacker in a post practice press conference on Thursday was in a jovial mood and when asked by a reporter about his contract situation Briggs turned the microphone towards the reporter and said
"Could you repeat that question?" Briggs asked. "I didn't catch the question. I believe (it was) that, 'You said that earlier in the year you mentioned contract issues and you decided to put that under the rug and forget about that. It seemed to enhance
my play this year. Do I hope the Bears get the message going into the offseason?'
"I'm going to leave that as no comment."
Briggs had a brilliant season with Chicago in 2011 with the Linebacker forming the spine of the defence with Brian Urlacher. Briggs was also nominated to represent the Bears in the 2012 Pro-Bowl and has become just the fourth player in National Football
League history to be included in a Pro-Bowl roster for the seventh consecutive time.
His selection among the best players the National Football League has to offer makes a great case for the linebacker to be given a renewed contract by the franchise. Briggs form in the regular season also is nothing to scoff at. Even though the Bears who
were at one time 7-3 in the league have fallen from those heights to finish the season with an ignominious 7-8 record and no chance of making the postseason Briggs has remained consistent.
The 31-year old leads the Bears with 100 tackles, 82 of which were solo efforts while also forcing two fumbles and an interception.
Briggs also stated that he does not know how long he will stay with the Bears but believes he is part of the defence legacy and his heart will remain at the franchise.
"The linebacker legacy in Chicago, I think I'll be a part of it."
Briggs and his teammates will take on Minnesota Vikings in the final game of the regular season. The match is essentially meaningless and both teams will be playing for pride and give their fans some last minute joy after a very disappointing end to the
2011 season.
