Bears’ QB Jay Cutler has successful surgery on injured thumb – NFL News
Chicago Bears have some good news for fans as injured quarterback Jay Cutler had a successful surgery on his injured thumb in Vail, Colorado.
Cutler tweeted from his account about the surgery saying
"Surgery went great. Randy Viola is the best,"
Viola who is the doctor at the Steadman Clinic performed the surgery on Cutler’s thumb and the quarterback will now undergo rehab which will count him out of the game indefinitely with Bears hoping for a return during the playoffs.
Coach Lovie Smith also declared the good news to Rockford Register Star but refrained from giving any more information about the timeline of recovery or the procedure that Cutler underwent saying
"Jay Cutler had successful surgery earlier today," Bears coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday, "It’s the same timeline that we talked about earlier in the week, and we don’t know any more details right now, but we’ll be able to get
that to you a little bit later on."
The quarterback who was the main fulcrum for Chicago Bears five game winning streak and their rise from a poor start to the season was injured during game week 11 of the National Football League which saw Cutler and Chicago Bears
taking on San Diego Chargers.
Cutler has a completion rate of 58% with 182 passes completed off 314 attempts covering 2,319 yards this season with 13 passing touchdowns.
It is believed that Cutler’s attempted tackle on Charger’s Antoine Cason led to the injured thumb but the quarterback continued to play the whole match and did not divulge any information on his condition during the post game interview.
The impact of the injury on Bears playoff hopes will be seen during game week 12 on Sunday when Bears take on Oakland Raiders as they continue their four game run of facing teams from American Football Conference West.
Chicago Bears in the wake of Cutler’s injury will be starting backup quarterback Caleb Hanie against Raiders with Rookie Nathan Enderle providing cover. Chicago have also signed eight year veteran Josh McCown to provide backup
to Hanie after failing to capture waived Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton who joined Kansas City Chiefs yesterday.
