  1. Sadly, the QB issue is one that still haunts this franchise.  A few years ago, when Football Digest was listing their best team formation for each franchise (best player at each position for the team throughout the franchise history, Sid Luckman was listed as the best QB the Bears have ever had.

Jim McMahon had a few good years, but nothing spectacular that would make him a top tier or second tier QB.  The front office continues to shoot themselves in the foot with QB selection, whether it be through the draft or free agency.  You could run through the list of QBs that the Bears have used, and realize that there was really no one of any significance after the mid-1980s.

This draft should have seen the Bears try to address the QB situation again, but instead, they avoided it like the plague.  Who knows?  If neither Grossman nor Orton pan out, then we may be seeing the Bears grab a QB in the first or second round of the 2009 draft class.

The Bears have always been a smash mouth defensive oriented team.   More times than not, when you think of the Bears, linebackers and defensive linemen are more predominantly brought up. The defense has always been the heart and soul of this team, so that is not a big surprise when you think about it.

I think that the Bears are due for a solid QB, but getting one at the level of Manning or Brady would be extremely rare.  Hopefully, they can get one more along the lines of Brees or Palmer (very good QB with better accuracy, stronger arm, and less fear in the pocket).

  2. Not this year, but Grossman is a "capable" QB for sure. Remember Baltimore won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Brett Favre, whom the media would really love to rename JESUS, has only won ONE Super Bowl, so you need to do what works for you and I think Lovie does that with the Bears. I think the Bears are better off with Grossman just because he can throw the deep ball which will keep the opposing D honest. Kyle Orton can probably recite the Bears playbook by hand, however, doesn't have the arm strength of Grossman and is more limited in what you can do.

  3. If you think about it, "great" QBs are few and far between.

Of all the QBs in the league, only a few stand out as big producers in the passing game.

But that usually is on teams that have a majority passing game.

The bears are historically a strong running game and a stingy defense.

I don't think you will see them going to a 5 WR spread anytime soon in Chicago.

Been a long time since Jim McMahon hasn't it.

If you step back and look at the big picture, you will see that most of the teams in the league don't have "great" QBs.

Some teams just get lucky, because there were a ton of QBs over the years that came out of college and were supposed to be great, and failed miserably.

The QB position just doesn't take top priority in Chicago.

And remember, even with Grossman stinking it up at QB, the Bears were just recently in a Super Bowl.

  4. rex grossmen is as good as alex smith or aaron rodgers

  5. I think Chicago well learn one day or another. They have invested in Rex Grossman and have a decent QB in Kyle Orton so their QB situation isn't THAT bad.

However, I feel that the Bears have a mentality that they DON'T need a first-round pick QB in order to win the Super Bowl. (Well, with the exception of Rex Grossman who was a first-round pick)
