Bears RB Barber's week gets worse as NFL mull on fine for not facing media – NFL News
Chicago Bears Marion Barber is having a very bad week after his hand in the Bears 13-10 overtime loss to Denver Broncos. Its likely to get worse for the Running Back as the National Football League sent an official warning to Barber
for avoiding the media.
The NFL according to its 2011 Media Relations policy has made it mandatory for teams to make all players available to the press after games and each practice session. Violation of the rules results in warnings and later fines as
no player or team has the right to boycott the media.
A $ 10,000 fine is on the cards for Barber for violating the above mentioned policy as his continued refusal has drawn the ire of the NFL.
The running back was unavailable for comment after the game against Broncos when the player’s locker room was opened for the press. The Bears received a warning from the NFL to make Barber available on Wednesday after their training
session, however, the 28-year old again dodged the waiting reporters leaving the NFL with no choice but to consider a fine.
Coach Lovie Smith is not to concerned as he talked with media after practice.
"There are things in place for that," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "That's the least of my concerns, really right now. I assume most of our guys answer when they are supposed to, and meet with you guys. But I got other things
on my mind right now instead of that."
Barber is under the glare of the media for his role in the Bears third straight defeat. The running back scored a touchdown which gave Chicago the lead in the third quarter and covered 108 yards during the game but his heroics
were overshadowed by his mistakes. The Bears were up by 10-7 with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Barber had possession of the ball but made a huge blunder by going out of bounds stopping the clock at a time when the Bears were looking to run it down
for the win.
The Broncos gained a respite and quarterback Tim Tebow on his next drive got them in field-goal range to tie the score and send the game to overtime. Barber made another big mistake in overtime losing a fumble with the Bears turning
over possession when in field goal range. Tebow got the Broncos to 51-yards of the end-zone and kicker Matt Prater sealed the win with a 51-yard field goal.
