Bears WR Roy Williams wants new contract with Bears - NFL News
Chicago Bears have thrown away their chance of qualifying for the postseason losing five games in a row and are set to rebuild this off season.
However, veteran wide receiver Roy Williams want to stick around a little while longer with the franchise and is expecting a to receive a new contract for the Bears which will keep him at Soldier Field for another year.
"I feel like I made plays when the opportunity came," he added. "Of course, everybody's going to bring up the negatives, which is fine. But for the most part I made enough plays and I'll be happy to [re-]sign [with the Bears]. But if not, I'll continue on
elsewhere."
Williams has had a good season with the Bears in offense. The 30 year old has covered 447 receiving yards this season making 33 receptions and scoring a single touchdown for the Bears.
The veteran had his best game last week in the defeat against Green Bay Packers covering 81 yards and making six receptions for his highest stats for the year. However, the Bears lost the game 21-35 with quarterback Aaron Rodgers throwing for five passing
touchdowns to send their fierce rivals out of contention for the playoffs.
Williams is in line for another start in the Bears final game against Minnesota Vikings. The wide receiver is pumped up for the game even though a victory will make no difference. Talking to media after practice on Wednesday Williams said
"It's being a professional. It's tough to be in this situation, but luckily for us, it's only been one week. A lot of teams have been at this thing for 10, 11 weeks now, knowing they're playing for nothing. We're some fighters and we'll keep fighting. We
want to try and end this year and start a new one off with a win."
The Bears were shoo-ins for the playoffs as early as Week 11 in the regular season. With regular quarterback Jay Cutler suffering a season ending thumb fracture the Bears have gone on to lose five games straight.
Caleb Hanie replaced Cutler in the centre but his erratic performances led to the Bears poor performance in the most important part of the 2011 season. Hanie threw nine interceptions and passed for just three touchdowns in his four starts jeopardising the
Bears chances of reaching the postseason.
With the visit to Minnesota Vikings on Sunday the Bears will look to end the season on a high.
