Bears in Canada?

Are the bears in Canada dangerous? Here in Switzerland we usually have to shoot any bears that wander into this land!

lots of bears - brown, black and grizzly --- even polar in some areas.

they are dangerous but can be avoided with proper preparation.  some are relocated and some problem bears must be shot for safety reasons.

Umm.. i think bears are dangerous anywhere, except the zoo. :D

But bears are supposed to be deep in the woods and in you go specially deep in those woods, ofcourse they will .. you know.. eat `cha. ^^

There are basically 3 species of bear common in Canada.  The Black Bear, generally not an agressive animal however if a human were to put it in a situation where it feels threatened or if a human comes between a female and her cubs, the human is in for a bad time.  Next is the Polar Bear.  They're cute looking but a human doesn't want to get anywhere near one.  The result would likely be fatal for a human.  Finally, the Grizzley Bear; will probably attack a human on sight.  Avoid Grizzleys and Polar Bears at all costs.  Black bears, just leave them alone and you should be alright.

Bears are bears, no matter where they are dangerous. They scare and tear they don't care.

Yes I live in Canada and they are dangerous, some places don't see bears as much as other do. We don't shoot them I don't think or shoot them with a tranquilizer dart then bring them back into the wild.

Bears can get nasty if you surprise them but in Canada we co-exist most of the time.

Bears by nature are dangerous to humans who forget that they are Wild animals - don't laugh. Almost every year in the National Parks, (The parks are the most likely place to see them or the far northern reaches of the country) someone gets hurt by a bear because they thought they were cute and offered them food. Then when they ran out of food, the bears got hostile and swatted them. A swat from a bear can scalp a person. So if you go into the National Parks and meet up with a bear remember

1. You are the visitor and this is HIS home. So stay in your car and shoot him with a camera. Guns are very restricted in Canada so the odds of anyone shooting a bear other than a game warden are very remote.

2. Do not feed him.  He is quite capable of finding his own food.

Brown bears will usually keep their distance as they as pretty shy unless they have been spoiled by tourists.

Grizzleys also tend to stay away from people but they are more unpredictable and can turn aggressive for no apparent reason. They are seldom seen n the southerly, inhabited places. They are probably the most likely of any of the bears to maul a person and that is,if left alone, not too terribly likely either.

Polar Bears are way up north and unless you have some business in those northern regions, you will never see one except at a zoo.

Bears can be dangerous anywhere...and yes they are in Canada.  But they are not running through the cities or along most of the roads.  They stick to their cover, parks, crown land mountains rural areas etc.  If you are just visiting and in a city most of the time. you will never see a bear.  However if you plan on hiking through some parks, you must be aware, and don't even think about chatting it up with the bears.  Never get between a momma bear and her cubs, bad mistake.  If you give the bear the right of way, things will go a lot smoother for all concerned.,
