Bears’ injured quarterback Jay Cutler not up for giving a timeline for his return – NFL News
Chicago Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler who missed the last game owing to a broken right thumb is not ready for giving an exact timeline regarding his return on to the field, but he said on Wednesday that he wants to play as soon
as possible.
During the week 11 game of the National Football League current season against San Diego Chargers, Cutler sustained the injury. He underwent a surgery last week and successfully fixed his thumb. However, he has got two pins and
three screws inserted in the thumb and apparently, in this condition he cannot play.
Initially, it was rumoured that Cutler might miss the rest of the season due to the injury. That possibility cannot be denied at this stage as well, but the management thinks that the quarterback will be able to make it to the
playoffs.
"I don't know. We'll have to see week-by-week and just take some X-rays and some CT scans in the next few weeks and see if the bone's healing like it should be," Cutler said on Wednesday. "I don't want to put a real number on it
because I just don't know."
Cutler started his professional career with Denver Broncos in the year 2006. After playing three seasons, he joined Bears in 2009.
This season, he has played 10 games and completed 182 passes of 314 attempts for 2,319 yards. He also has 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions to his credit.
During the last week game against Oakland Raiders, Cutler was replaced by Caleb Hanie. Unfortunately, he could not perform well and his team lost that game 25-20.
Caleb has played three games this season and started only one. He has completed 18 passes of 36 attempts and managed two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Cutler desperately wants to be the starter for Bears once again, but he also knows that it is not possible, at least not now.
"I'd want to play next week if they'd let me, but I don't think that's going to be in the cards," he said. "It could be I'm done for the season.”
Bears have won seven of their 11 games this season, and are ranked second in the National Football Conference North division.
