Bears linked with waived Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton – NFL News
With Jay Cutler to undergo surgery on his thumb and out for the rest of the regular season after getting injured in Chicago Bears 31-20 victory over San Diego Chargers, Bears have been linked with multiple quarterbacks as they
search for a backup to secondary quarterback Caleb Hanie.
Multiple sources are linking Bears to a move for waived Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton. With Cutler out for the rest of the regular season Bears are left with just Caleb Hanie and rookie Nathan Enderle in the quarterback
position. With Coach Lovie Smith looking for a veteran quarterback as a stop gap measure the Bears have been linked with Josh McCown and J.T. O’Sullivan but with Orton now also available it seems Bears have plenty of quarterbacks to choose from.
Houston Texans have also been linked with a move for Kyle Orton as they face their own quarterback injury problems with Matt Schaub out for weeks. The Texans however have denied any interest and will stick with their current quarterback
Matt Leinart.
Orton was a Bears player till 2008 before the franchise traded him with Broncos for Jay Cutler.
The 29 year old was waived on Tuesday by the Broncos after his poor performances at the start of this season which resulted in Broncos losing four of their first five games. Orton was benched and was replaced by Tim Tebow who stabilized
the Broncos line as they went 4-1 and are currently on a three game winning streak.
Broncos Coach John Fox in a statement on the Broncos website said, "I spoke with Kyle earlier today and thanked him for everything he did for the Broncos. He was a true professional throughout this season. I've got a great deal
of respect for him as both a player and as a person. This was the right decision for our football team. We feel good about our quarterback group, and this gives Kyle an opportunity to help another team and showcase his talents."
Chicago Bears will start Caleb Hanie in the lineup for the game on Sunday against Oakland Raiders as they look to continue their challenge for the playoff spots.
